Renew a firearms licence (individual)

If you have received a notification from the Firearms Registry, you may be eligible to renew your licence online.

Introduction

You must lodge your online renewal application before your current licence expiry date. This is necessary so that your authority to possess or use firearms under your current licence will continue, while your renewal is being processed.

The Firearms Registry will email you a renewal notice if you have a Gun Safe account, or send a letter by mail when your licence is within 90 days of expiring. They will send you a second email or letter within 30 days of your licence expiring. If you have not renewed it within 7 days of its expiry date, they will send you an SMS reminder or contact you by phone.

You can select to add or delete a genuine reason or category, or request a fee exemption if your pensioner status has changed, when renewing your current licence through the online renewal process only.

Eligibility

You must be a resident of NSW and:

• hold a current NSW individual firearms licence that is within 90 days of expiring, or
• have received your notification from the Firearms Registry advising you to lodge your licence renewal online.

What you need

• proof of identity documents such as your driver licence and Medicare card
• a MyServiceNSW Account
• your current firearms licence number (located on the front of your licence)
• details of the address(s) where you'll safely store your firearms (if applicable)
• documentation to support your genuine reason/category (if applicable)
• a current credit card (Visa or Mastercard) for your payment, or
• a copy of your current pensioner card (if you are eligible for a fee exemption).

How to renew

1. Select the 'Renew online' button.
2. You will be taken to the NSW Police Force Community Self Service Portal.
3. Check that you have all the documentation required.
4. Select 'Log in with Service NSW'.
5. Follow the prompts to complete your renewal application.

Privacy

To apply for, renew or update a firearms licence or permit with the Firearms Registry (NSW Police Force), you'll need to create or log in with a MyServiceNSW Account.

By logging in you consent to sharing your name and email address in your MyServiceNSW Account with the NSW Police Force.
