Practitioner Teacher Program
The Practitioner Teacher Program allows prospective candidates who hold a teaching position or letter of intent for employment from a parish school board to become certified to teach in one year. Graduates of the program are awared a post-baccalaureate certificate from the unviersity.
Admission Requirements
- possess a non-education baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited university;
- hold a current teaching position or possess a letter of intent to hire from a school district;
- have a cumulative 2.5.GPA on a 4.0 scale on all undergraduate coursework;
- pass PRAXIS I Core Academic Skills: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. (Master’s degree applications are exempt from the PRAXIS I requirements); and
- Pass PRAXIS II: Content Knowledge (content-specific area) examination.
Graduation/Certification Requirements
- complete all coursework with a grade of “C” or higher;
- pass PRAXIS II: Principles of Learning and Teaching (PLT).
